Waterford Estate is situated in one of the world's most visually arresting pockets of paradise. Nestled in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, in the world-renowned Stellenbosch region, this 120-hectare property boasts ancient citrus groves, rolling lawns, water features and fragrant lavender beds.

The winery was designed by architect Alex Walker and created from quarried local bedrock, stones from the vineyard and timber grown on the estate. It was styled along the engaging terracotta design of the classic Bordeaux chateaus of France. The centre piece of the magnificent courtyard is the Waterford fountain. This feature has been immortalised in the Waterford label and represents a fundamental component of our philosophy.

Just as in winemaking, it is not about a single season, harvest or vintage - it's about continuity, longevity and perpetuation; building for the future and the generations to come. The Waterford Way is a philosophy that celebrates prosperity, life, food, wine, family and friends, and guides all that we do here at Waterford. Every guest to the farm is made to feel a part of the Waterford Way, and those who have visited are drawn back often not only to the sumptuous wines, but to the heart and soul of Waterford.

Waterford Estate was created through a very special partnership between two families who had a shared dream to create a wine farm where life is cherished, the seasons mark time and the fruit always reminds of blessings, abundance and the beauty of nature. Waterford Wines (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1998 when Jeremy and Leigh Ord purchased this prime Stellenbosch vineyard land (previously part of the Stellenrust Farm). Kevin and Heather Arnold were responsible for identifying this unique site, planning the new winery and resurrecting the existing vineyards and orchards, and have been instrumental in developing Waterford into the showcase estate it is today.

The Ord and Arnold families combine to form the roots of Waterford and have created a base for the extended family. Not only is Waterford a highly successful working wine farm, it is the culmination of years of passion and a concerted effort to build something enduring and meaningful. Waterford Estate is a living monument to the Ord and Arnold families' philosophy of embracing life, family, friends, food and wine. To the Ord family, the farm provides a magnificent escape to a home away from home surrounded by beauty and tranquility.

Kevin spent 9 years at Delheim and 10 years at Rust en Vrede before founding Waterford, and experiencing what every winemaker dreams of, choosing the land that will grow the vines of his own wines. He brings a wealth of winemaking and wine marketing expertise and experience to the team.

The workforce at Waterford Estate is a group of people that take great pride in what they have achieved in establishing new vineyards and maintaining the existing vineyards and orchards. Their care of the vines and attention to detail is what adds to the quality of each wine. Likewise those in the winery care for and put finishing touches to the final expression of the estate.
